OUR STORY

The story of Genki Sushi began with the vision of a 24 –year old Japanese sushi chef, Fumio Saito. Saito dreamed of creating a modern sushi restaurant with an unusual feature known as “kaiten sushi” (literally translated as “revolving”).  He was inspired when he had visited a Asahi Beer Factory and watched the production line.

In December 1968, he created the concept of “kaiten sushi” and pioneered the use of a revolving conveyor belt to serve sushi, combining serving traditional sushi with modern technology. The new concept caught on fast in Japan.  And the success of kaiten sushi saw the opening of outlets in the prefecture of Tochigi in the Kanto region and in a town named Utsunomiya.

In 1990 Genki Sushi Co. LTD was established and in 1991, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.  With its dedication to freshness, the company quickly gained public support and successfully expanded further throughout Japan. GENKI SUSHI has grown not only in Japan, but also throughout the rest of the world.

And now we are proud to share with Australians a product that is synonymous with Japan's unique culture and the principle of “customer comes first”.  And to further enhance the customer journey and experience, our "kaiten sushi" system has now evolved to a whole new level of service standard - The World's first order and automated direct-to-table delivery system; and modelled after the actual Shinkansen Train in Japan.  This ensures that orders are freshly prepared and hygienically maintained for consumption.
